Inventory for Sale in the Top 5 Metro Areas

In August 2025, the Houston metro area once again held the top spot among major U.S. markets, with 59,836 homes for sale—a 30.7% increase compared to last year. Atlanta followed closely, with 55,524 homes listed, reflecting a 19.3% year-over-year (YoY) rise and maintaining its strong position in the housing market.The Dallas metro area came next, reporting 47,440 homes on the market, up 21.2% YoY, highlighting sustained momentum in available inventory. Meanwhile, the New York metro area recorded 32,391 homes for sale, posting a more moderate 8.6% YoY increase. Rounding out the top five, San Antonio reported 27,959 homes, showing a 7.9% YoY growth.
