Inventory growth remained strong across major U.S. housing markets in December 2025, reflecting continued expansion in active listings as the year closed. The Cincinnati metro area led the month, recording a 35.0% year-over-year increase, with homes for sale rising to approximately 7,238 listings. The Washington, DC metro area followed with a 22.1% annual gain, bringing total inventory to around 7,818 homes.The Houston metro area continued to show elevated supply levels, posting a 21.4% year-over-year increase and reaching roughly 51,044 active listings. The Detroit metro area emerged among the top markets in December, with inventory climbing 20.5% year over year to approximately 11,467 homes for sale. The Charlotte metro area rounded out the leading markets, recording an 18.9% increase and ending the month with about 7,760 active listings.
