Available housing inventory continued to rise across several major U.S. metro areas in August 2026, with the strongest year-over-year gains concentrated in Detroit and other key markets.Detroit, MI recorded the largest increase, with inventory for sale climbing 44.2% year-over-year to 15,627 homes. Seattle, WA followed with a 25.8% increase, bringing available inventory to 13,146 listings. Minneapolis, MN registered a 24.0% year-over-year rise, with 16,026 homes available for sale.Pittsburgh, PA saw inventory grow 21.1% compared with August 2025, reaching 8,460 listings, while Boston, MA completed the top five with a 16.8% increase, totaling 7,167 homes for sale.
